The Village Voice article on The House of Latex Ball
http://www.villagevoice.com/nycguide/?timeend=week
The House of Latex Ball will take you to another planet and leave you there. It’s a futuristic carnival with the sassiest voguers in town showing off their most glamorous animal prints, masks, latex, and feathers.
The 25-category competition supports AIDS/HIV awareness and features the city’s top houses—including Milan, Chanel, Xtravaganza, Ninja, and DeLaBlanca—battling it out in fabulous fashion as if there’s no tomorrow. For those who don’t know, houses (families of extravagant queer dancers and performers) and ballroom culture is where vogueing began. Categories include New Way Vogue Contortion-Destruction (plan to see plenty of precise double-jointed arm-and-leg extensions); All-American Runway—Fashion Week, Paris 2075 (they want competitors to come with a nasty look that will make us see the future); BQ Runway Bazaar Futuristic (think couture fun house); and plenty more. Awards range from $500 to $1,000. (Franklin)
At 8:30, Roseland Ballroom 239 W 52nd St Manhattan, NY 10019 West Side (212) 247-0200 www.roselandballroom.com/, $free
